About the Northampton Print & Book Fair

Established in 2015, the Northampton Print & Book Fair (NPBF) was created to promote contemporary artist publications, prints, and multiples; celebrating local talent while bringing regional artists and publishers to our community for an annual event that is free and open to the public.

NPBF is an all volunteer-run event created by artists, for artists. NPBF brings together a curated selection of artists, publishers, and collectives for a one-day exhibition. With a primary focus on contemporary artist prints and publications (such as zines, artists’ books, chapbooks, magazines; handmade, machine, and digital prints), the fair also features artist-made multiples including stickers, pottery, wearable art and more. All NPBF exhibitors are either artists who self-publish as part of their practice, or artists and publishers of art-related material whose work is created in small editions or multiples.

NPBF aims to celebrate the overlapping zine, printmaking, graphic arts, DIY, and self-publishing cultures of New England while providing a platform for diverse artwork and approaches to art making that aren’t represented in traditional gallery or museum spaces. NPBF builds on the legacy of self-publishing, which provides artists space to experiment, express radical thought, and build communities outside of established circuits. The fair is oriented around values of mutual aid, community care, and collaboration. NPBF is an event where ideas and techniques are shared openly, and seeds for future artworks, collaborations, and connections are planted. Visitors have the special opportunity to purchase work directly from the person who created it, a means of support that is impactful for artists.

At the same time, we recognize that it is a lot of work to participate in an event like NPBF and may involve travel, taking time off from work, childcare, or other financial burdens. To this end, we offer cash stipends and a free table to a limited number of artists. Additionally, we offer sliding scale table fees to help offset the cost of participating in NPBF. There is no fee to apply to participate or to attend the event as a visitor.

The safety, comfort, and access of participating artists and visitors remain a priority both during planning and on the day of the event. NPBF does not tolerate racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of hatred, and is committed to creating a space that is welcoming and inclusive for all.

NPBF was co-founded by George Myers, Trevor Powers, and Esther S White. Trevor Powers serves as the current producer, with the 2025 fair co-organized with Isabel Ruiz Cano and Esther S White.
